I am a 27 year old girl born just outside of Glasgow. Football has been a part of my life since I was born. Football spans through all generations of my father’s side of the family ‘The Ford’s’. My dad of course showed his love of Football and Glasgow Celtic to his children so they can pass it on. I myself felt a growing love of playing the game as soon as I could walk. Unfortunately in my youth and the time I was progressing into football as a career the support system for girl/women’s football was not in place. This made it harder for myself to fully give football my all like many of my male peers were able to. Then a devastating diagnosis of a back condition and further injuries ended my career as a footballer. Although before it came to an end I was able to be selected and involved for the Scottish women’s national team as well as being able to play for my beloved football club. I was part of the Celtic girls academy for their first ever season of establishment in 2007. I come from a working class family with parents who worked long hours for little pay but this is where my love of football kits started, a Saturday morning trip to the Barras market in Glasgow with my Gran and Granda allowed me to see football kits from all major football teams, although they were of course fakes and cost a fiver each I did not care, this is where it all began.
